Eco Church
At Holy Trinity we believe God has commissioned us to care for the wonderful world that he has given us. One of the ways we are doing this is to join the Eco-church movement, supported by A ROCHA UK. This provides a framework and resources to support us as we take practical steps to 'go green' in all areas of church life. We have currently achieved our Bronze Award. Here is some information and ideas to help you play your part.
Things to do and try this month
Here are our top tips for the month to help you embrace your green side:
January
Suggestions this month are related to your use of water as well as electricity. Most washing machines and dishwashers have eco-settings which are better for the environment, although they tend to take much longer than the traditional settings. They generally use less water and power, but are just as effective.
Most houses will retain their heat for at least 30 minutes or so after the heating goes off, so why not adjust the timings for your heating? It is also worth checking the lagging on your hot water tank (if you have one). A well-lagged hot water tank will keep the water hot for much longer than you think!
Finally, why not have a look at the T25 project which is A Rocha UK’s project to help a range of declining species, taxonomic groups, and threatened habitats.
Along with their Partners in action, they are working to help a wide range of 25 target places and species that are struggling with the effects of climate change, habitat loss and pollution.
Each Partner is using iRecord to monitor numbers of species, and track improvements in populations in response to the work done to care for the species on site. Using iRecord can inform further land management plans created in the years to come.
If you go to https://arocha.org.uk/what-we-do/target-25 you will find some helpful resources that will explain how you can get involved.

Calculate your Carbon Footprint
DID YOU KNOW?
The average carbon footprint varies by country and lifestyle, but it's around 4 tons per person. In the UK, the average carbon footprint is 12.7 tons per person. Do you know what yours is? To avoid a 2% rise in global temperature, the average global carbon footprint per year needs to drop by under 2 tons by 2050.
Why not come back to this in 6 months time and see whether you have managed to reduce it?
